We want to Hear the Turtle and be a voice for terrapins and turtles in the Maryland tidewater and other places. Along with our own views, we want to hear others’ voices, views, turtle stories, turtle habitats, terrapin nesting areas and behaviors, and whatever anyone cares to share (within reason).
Speaking as Clerk for the Terrapin Institute, my view was expanded and enriched in 1998, when diamondback terrapins were assigned to me along with other duties in the Department of Natural Resources, Fisheries Service. As recently as 2006, terrapins were harvested, collected in great numbers, and sold alongside other commercial fisheries.
